“Cead Mile Failte” (A Hundred Thousand Welcomes)

I was asked how it felt to return to Ireland nearly 150 years after my great-grandfather, James Concannon, sailed from the rocky coast of the Aran Islands for America’s fertile shores.
Coming back for me always stirs something deep inside. It’s a reminder of so many of the Irish values that have made us who we are, a return to my family’s roots, our original homeland which is integral to our history and identity. I’m very proud of that spirit which I know began in this place – I see it all around me! Continue reading

From Ballerina to America’s First Professional Female Winemaker, Katherine Vajda: Winemaker at Concannon Vineyard (1950-1960)

As we celebrate our 128th consecutive year producing wine under the Concannon family label, I am reminded of the remarkable Katherine Vajda, our winemaker from 1950 to 1960.
Katherine was the first technically-trained, professional woman winemaker in the United States. Highly respected for her knowledge, skill and training, she served as an active participant on the Technical Advisory Board of the California Wine Institute.
