The number 50 is being celebrated all year long around the winery. It’s our 50th Anniversary as America’s First Petite Sirah ever since my father, James Concannon, first produced this varietal in 1961. Coincidentally, 1961 is also the year I was born.
In honor of my father, I am proud to announce the release of a fifth wine to our popular Conservancy tier that helps protect California vineyard land from urban development. A red blend dedicated to my father, this new wine is called Crimson & Clover.
In honor of our 50th Anniversary, this blend will be comprised of 50% Petite Sirah — providing the wine’s backbone — blended with Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Zinfandel for additional smoothness.
Crimson & Clover was crafted to be a stand alone wine by specifically selecting and assembling the best varietal expressions of our Livermore Conservancy terroir.
The varietals are all aged separately for 15 months in both American and French oak 60-gallon barrels before they are blended together. During the last month of maturation, we utilize a unique and proprietary process that imparts and enhances the character of mocha. When Dad and I tasted this wine for the first time, his first comment was: “I have never tasted a barrel sample of this quality!”
At Concannon, this is a year of milestones and of coming full circle in life – a circle that couldn’t be complete without the love and support of family and, most of all, the example my father has set for me. I invite you to share in a son’s tribute to his father by toasting those you love with a glass of Crimson & Clover.
