Concannon’s “old
gate” is 75 years old, with its brick construction,
elaborate metal work and the “Concannon Vineyard” name
in script; it announces the place with pride. A hundred
yards farther on, the newer gate stands where visitors
drive in, past some of our heritage Petite Sirah vines
and of course, the Concannon rocks.
Livermore’s
rich soil, full of these rocks, defines the wines
of Concannon Vineyard. Cherished winemakers have come
and gone, but our vineyards have grown memorable grapes
for more than a century. In anticipation of our next
century of growth, we have begun replanting some of
the century old vines to ensure the quality of fruit
for the next generation. Our new barrel room will
provide a framework for us to gently handle the fruits
of our estate vineyard.
The Concannon family home has been restored as nearly
as possible to its original condition. Over the next
several years, we will renovate our tasting room making
it even more pleasurable for visitors. The original
old brick part of the winery will be transformed into
a wine country museum devoted to the Pre-Prohibition
era.
The wine industry in the Livermore Valley is undergoing
a modern renaissance. Over the last ten years the
number of wineries has more than tripled to over 35,
and the acreage devoted to vineyards has nearly doubled
to more than 3,000. Concannon Vineyards is well positioned
to lead the Valley into the future. Although the ship
has changed ownership a half dozen times in 125 years,
we have always been blessed to have a Concannon at
the helm.
At nearly 125, we’re still a young winery, and
we expect to be writing chapters for another 125 years.
Come visit us and experience our proud tradition of
winemaking. You may have to dodge a few rocks, but wait
until you taste our wines. |
