James Foster

Senior Director of Winemaking

James Foster’s winemaking career did not happen by chance. As a child, he was raised on the family farm, the historic Roseland Plantation in Eufaula, Alabama, where they farmed peanuts, hay and cotton. Although James grew up in Alabama, his father worked in the California wine industry, and James began to follow in his footsteps.

In 2002, James became Head Winemaker at Concannon. Always a lover of Bordeaux varieties, he is honored to be working with the original Concannon Margaux heritage clones and first-released, Concannon Cabernet Clones 7, 8 and 11 in continuing Concannon’s legacy in Cabernet Sauvignon.

Brett Fikse

Brett Fikse

Assistant Winemaker

Since 2012, Brett has played a vital role in Concannon’s winemaking, embodying our philosophy and dedication to crafting complex, harmonious, and age-worthy wines. Beginning in the cellar, he tackled tasks like racking, blending, and equipment sanitation. Progressing to the laboratory, Brett analyzed components throughout harvest, fermentation, blending, and bottling. Today, he holds the position of Assistant Winemaker. An avid runner completing marathons, including the Livermore Valley Half, he’s not only a skilled winemaker but also a accomplished homebrewer. Brett humorously embraces the saying, “Making good wine requires a lot of beer!”
